Impact of Inflation

Inflation erodes the purchasing power of money over time. At 3.5% annual inflation, $10,000 today will require ~$14,106 to purchase the same goods in 10 years. This is why keeping cash idle is a silent wealth destroyer.

What is the Inflation Calculator?

The Inflation Calculator measures the decline of purchasing power over time. It allows you to see exactly how much a dollar from the past is worth today, or forecast how much money you will need in the future to maintain your standard of living.

How It Works (Formula)

Historically, the tool utilizes the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data published by the government. For future projections, it uses a reverse Compound Interest formula, mathematically treating inflation as a negative interest rate that degrades the value of cash.

$$ \text{Future Value} = \text{Present Value} \times (1 + \text{Inflation Rate})^n $$

The exponential growth formula applied to price inflation.

How to Use It

Enter a starting amount of money. Select the historical year, and select the target year. The calculator will cross-reference the CPI index and output the inflation-adjusted equivalent value.
