How to Calculate GPA Manually
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the standard metric used to summarize your academic achievement. It's calculated by converting letter grades into points and calculating a weighted average based on the credit hours of each course.
The GPA Formula
GPA = Total Grade Points / Total Credit Hours
Step-by-Step Example
- Multiply the GPA points for each grade by the credit hours of the class to get the **Grade Points** for that course. E.g., if you get an **A** (4.0) in a **3-credit** class, the Grade Points = 4.0 × 3 = 12.0.
- Sum all the Grade Points together.
- Sum all the Credit Hours together.
- Divide the total Grade Points by the total Credit Hours.
