What is the Scientific Notation Calculator?
The Scientific Notation Calculator allows you to perform math operations (+, -, *, /) on extremely large or infinitesimally small numbers without writing out dozens of zeros. It is a mandatory tool for astronomy, chemistry, and physics homework.
How It Works (Formula)
Scientific notation standardizes a number into a decimal between 1 and 10, multiplied by a power of 10. The calculator evaluates the exponent rules: when multiplying, the tool adds the exponents; when dividing, it subtracts them.
$$ (a \times 10^b) \times (c \times 10^d) = (a \times c) \times 10^{(b+d)} $$
Exponent rules govern the arithmetic of scientific notation.
How to Use It
Enter your first number using the "e" or "x10" format (e.g., 3.5e4). Select your mathematical operator, and enter the second number. The calculator will output the combined result in perfect scientific notation format.
