TNEB Domestic Tariff & Calculation Rules (2026 Update)

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) utilizes a bi-monthly billing system with a telescopic slab tariff structure for domestic consumers (LT-IA). This means your total billing is computed sequentially through escalating per-unit rates depending on how much electricity you consume:

Tier 1: Bi-monthly Consumption up to 500 Units
  • 0 - 200 units: 100% Free (₹0 per unit)
  • 201 - 400 units: ₹4.70 per unit
  • 401 - 500 units: ₹6.30 per unit
Tier 2: Bi-monthly Consumption exceeding 500 Units

If your consumption crosses 500 units, the free allowance drops to 100 units, and the pricing slabs increase dramatically:

  • 0 - 100 units: Free (₹0 per unit)
  • 101 - 400 units: ₹4.70 per unit
  • 401 - 500 units: ₹6.30 per unit
  • 501 - 600 units: ₹8.40 per unit
  • 601 - 800 units: ₹9.45 per unit
  • 801 - 1000 units: ₹10.50 per unit
  • Above 1000 units: ₹11.55 per unit
Pro Tip: Keep your bi-monthly consumption below 500 units to qualify for 200 free units and avoid the steeper Tier 2 rates and reduced subsidy structure.

What is the TNEB Bill Calculator?

The TNEB Bill Calculator is a localized utility tool specifically designed to help residents of Tamil Nadu calculate their bi-monthly electricity bill based on the official, tiered tariff rates published by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation.

How It Works (Formula)

The calculator uses a slab-based pricing algorithm. Electricity is free for the first 100 units. After that, the per-unit cost increases progressively depending on your total consumption bracket (e.g., up to 200 units, 201-500 units, and above 500 units).

$$ \text{Total Bill} = \text{Fixed Charges} + \sum (\text{Slab Units} \times \text{Slab Rate}) $$

A progressive tax structure applied to kWh consumption.

How to Use It

Enter your total electricity consumption in units (kWh) for the bi-monthly billing period. The calculator will automatically apply the current TNEB slab rates, deduct the free 100 units, add the fixed connection charges, and output your final bill in Rupees.
