What is the Surface Area Calculator?
The Surface Area Calculator determines the total two-dimensional area covering the outside of a 3D object. It is an essential geometry tool used for calculating how much paint, wrapping paper, or coating is required for a specific solid.
How It Works (Formula)
The calculation "unfolds" the 3D shape into its 2D net. For example, a cylinder's surface area consists of the two circular bases (top and bottom) plus the rectangular wrapped side (lateral area). The formula combines these elements.
$$ SA_{\text{cylinder}} = 2\pi r^2 + 2\pi rh $$
Combines the area of two circular bases with the lateral surface.
How to Use It
Select the geometry of your 3D object (sphere, cylinder, cube, pyramid, etc.) from the dropdown. Enter the known physical dimensions like radius, height, or base width. The calculator will instantly output the total exterior surface area.
