What is the dBm to Watts Converter?

The dBm to Watts converter unravels logarithmic RF readings back into linear electrical power. It is used by telecom engineers to determine how much physical wattage a cell tower or radio antenna is actually broadcasting.

How It Works (Algorithm)

To convert from a logarithm back to a linear scale, the calculator uses exponentiation. It divides the dBm value by 10, raises the base-10 to that exponent to find the power in milliwatts, and finally divides by 1,000 to convert those milliwatts into full Watts.

$$ P_{(W)} = \frac{10^{\left(\frac{P_{(dBm)}}{10}\right)}}{1000} $$

The exponential algorithm required to invert the decibel scale.

How to Use It

Enter the signal strength reading in decibel-milliwatts (dBm). The calculator will run the base-10 exponential function and output the exact equivalent in linear Watts (W). For example, an output of 50 dBm perfectly equates to 100 Watts.
