What is the Watts to dBm Converter?

The Watts (W) to dBm converter is a highly specialized logarithmic tool. It is used exclusively by radio and telecommunications engineers to measure the absolute power of an electromagnetic wave (like an LTE or 5G signal) as it leaves an antenna.

How It Works (Algorithm)

dBm stands for "decibels relative to one milliwatt." Because the input is in full Watts, the calculator must first multiply the input by 1,000 to convert it into milliwatts. Then, it runs the base-10 logarithm on that value and multiplies by 10 to extract the decibel reading.

$$ P_{(dBm)} = 10 \cdot \log_{10}(P_{(W)} \times 1000) $$

Converts linear Watts into logarithmic RF decibels.

How to Use It

Input the raw transmitter power in Watts (W). The calculator will run the logarithmic function and output the exact dBm value. For example, 1 Watt of transmission power equates to precisely 30 dBm.
