GPA Calculation
The Math Behind Your GPA
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) represents the average value of your accumulated class grades on a standardized scale (usually a 4.0 scale). GPA calculations weigh grades by the **credit hour value** of each class.
The GPA Formula
The standard GPA calculation is represented by this formula:
GPA = Sum of (Class Grade Points × Class Credits) / Total Credits
Understanding Grade Points
To calculate GPA, letter grades are first converted to standard grade points:
| A | B | C | D | F |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4.00 | 3.00 | 2.00 | 1.00 | 0.00 |

What is GPA Calculation?
GPA (Grade Point Average) Calculation is the standard mathematical method used by high schools and universities to summarize a student's entire academic performance into a single, comparative numerical value, usually on a 4.0 scale.
How It Works (Formula)
First, every letter grade is converted to a "Grade Point" (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0). This point value is multiplied by the number of "credits" or "hours" the class is worth. All these products are summed together, and then divided by the total number of credits taken.
$$ \text{GPA} = \frac{\text{Total Grade Points}}{\text{Total Credits Attempted}} $$
The weighted mean used by almost all admissions boards.
How to Use It
List the classes you have taken. For each class, select the letter grade you received and input the number of credits the course was worth. The calculator will automatically crunch the numbers to output your cumulative GPA.
