How Weighted Grades Work
Many teachers and professors use **weighted grading** to calculate class marks. Under this system, assignments belong to categories (e.g., Homework, Quizzes, Exams), and each category contributes a fixed percentage to your final class grade.
The Weighted Average Formula
Your overall class grade is calculated by multiplying each category score by its weight, summing those values, and dividing by the total weight defined:
Overall Class Grade = [ ∑(Category Grade × Category Weight) ] / Total Weight
What is the Grade Calculator?
The Grade Calculator is an essential academic tool for students and teachers. It calculates your current overall class grade based on the weighted percentages of individual assignments, quizzes, and exams.
How It Works (Formula)
Because a final exam is usually worth more than a homework assignment, simple averaging doesn't work. The calculator uses a Weighted Average formula. It multiplies your score on an assignment by its "weight" (its percentage of the total class grade), and sums them all together.
$$ \text{Current Grade} = \frac{\sum (\text{Grade} \times \text{Weight})}{\sum \text{Weights}} $$
The statistical formula for a weighted mean.
How to Use It
For each assignment or category (like "Midterm" or "Homework"), enter the grade you received and the percentage weight that category holds. Add as many rows as needed. The tool will calculate your exact current class standing.
