US Army Body Fat Standard
The Army uses a tape measurement method to estimate body fat from neck, waist, and hip circumferences. Standards vary by gender and age group. Soldiers exceeding the limit must enter a weight control program. This calculator uses the official DoD circumference method.
What is the Army Body Fat Calculator?
The Army Body Fat Calculator allows you to determine your body fat percentage using the strict physical readiness standards defined by the United States Department of Defense. It is widely used by recruits and active-duty personnel to ensure compliance with military fitness requirements.
How It Works (Formula)
The calculator uses the official U.S. Navy circumference method. It mathematically estimates body density by comparing the circumference of your waist (and hips for females) against the circumference of your neck and your overall height.
$$ \% \text{Fat (Men)} = 86.010 \times \log_{10}(W-N) - 70.041 \times \log_{10}(H) + 36.76 $$
The official DoD logarithmic formula for male body fat estimation.
How to Use It
Select your gender, age, and input your height. Then, use a tape measure to record the circumference of your neck and your waist (at the navel). Females must also include hip measurements. The tool will output your body fat percentage and verify if you meet Army standards.
