What is the Body Fat Calculator?

The Body Fat Calculator estimates the percentage of your total body weight that consists of adipose tissue (fat). It is a far superior metric to BMI because it differentiates between muscle mass and fat mass, giving you a true picture of your physical composition.

How It Works (Formula)

Without access to expensive DEXA scans, the U.S. Navy Tape Measure method is the most accurate at-home way to estimate body fat. It uses logarithmic formulas based on the circumference of your waist and neck relative to your height.

The circumference method uses bodily proportions to predict fat density.

How to Use It

Select your biological gender and use a flexible measuring tape to accurately measure your waist, neck, and (for females) hips. Enter these values along with your height. The tool will output your estimated body fat percentage and category (e.g., Fitness, Average, or Obese).
